Trojans Finish Fourth in Battle of Top-10 Teams
DALTON, Ga. – The fifth-ranked Taylor women's golf team went toe-to-toe with the best teams in the NAIA this week, claiming a fourth-place finish at the Roadrunner Invitational.
The Trojans tallied team scores of 305-316-306 to finish in fourth place behind behind a trio of teams ranked in the NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Poll top ten. The hosts, No. 2 Dalton State, earned the team title on its home course with a 54-hole team total of 902 (302-297-303) while No. 1 Keiser finished runner-up at 907 (299-297-311). SCAD Savannah (No. 8) narrowly edged the Trojans for third place at 921 (315-304-302) while Taylor finished at 927 in fourth place.
Taylor French earned a tie for third place in the 54-hole event to lead the way for the Trojans. The senior was sensational on the 5,851-yard, par-72 layout of Nob North Golf Course, signing for scores of 73-73-78 to claim a spot on the all-tournament team in a field loaded with many of the best players in the NAIA.
Senior Maddie Thomas added a tie for 10th place with a 54-hole total of 231. Thomas tallied scores of 79-75-77 while leading the entire field in pars with 42.
Annie Stimmel posted her season-low score of 1-over par 73 in round one. The senior stumbled in round two with an 87 but bounced back in incredible fashion during Tuesday's final round, leading the TU effort with another 73. Stimmel's 54-hole total of 233 was good enough for a tie for 15th place.
Senior All-American Nicole Jung tallied a 22nd place finish in her first event back after missing the last two tournaments due to injury. Jung, who had won four of her previous five starts, wasn't as sharp as normal but battled to scores of 80-81-78.
Rachel Coers added a 37th place finish at 251 (82-87-82) while freshman Elizabeth Kemper earned a 35th place finish at 248 (85-83-80) while competing as an individual.
The Trojans will wrap up the regular season on Monday, April 19th as Taylor hosts the Ackerman-Allen Shootout at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course on the campus of Purdue University
