UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University's Tanner Dye and Matt Hall were both recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division Team for men's cross country and track and field, as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom, as well as on the court, course, track or field of play. In order to be eligible for the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status academically and have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Dye earned his second-straight CoSIDA Academic All-District honor by maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.98 in mathematics through his junior season. The New Castle, Indiana native boasts a trio of All-Crossroads League awards and raced to All-American honors in the mile at the 2016 NAIA Indoor National Championships.
Hall also earned his second CoSIDA Academic All-District nod in as many years, after being named as a CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American standout in 2015. The Crete, Illinois native owns a 3.85 GPA in computer science through his junior year, is a five-time NAIA All-American and a five-time Crossroads League Champion.
Taylor University claimed two of the 10 available spots on the Academic All-District II College Division Team, joining Indiana Tech and Lindsey Wilson as the only teams within the region to have two student-athletes be selected.
Dye and Hall joined Alex Berends, Jane Hawks, Sarina Oleson and Haley White from the women's track and field and cross country rosters to boost Taylor University's total number of student-athletes to receive Academic All-District honors during the 2015-2016 year to 21, with five advancing to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Taylor will hope to add to that Academic All-American tally when the track and field and cross country CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams are announced on June 21.
