WESTFIELD, Ind. – Taylor led for all but three innings and never trailed against Indiana Tech on Saturday, scoring 7-1 and 4-0 victories against the Warriors in a neutral field twinbill at the Grand Park Sports Campus.
The Trojans rolled to a game-one win, taking a 7-0 lead into the seventh and settling for the 7-1 result behind a complete game gem in the circle from Ashley Miller. The senior improved to 2-0 on the season by not allowing an earned run and scattering five hits over seven frames.
Taylor rapped out 12 hits in the game, with Lauren Ehle pacing the attack with three hits, five runs batted in, a double and a triple. Miller and Hannah Robbins also collected multi-hit performances with two knocks each, while Alex Lovelace tripled and scored twice and Anna Gunderson also came around to score twice. Lovelace also successfully stole the 45th base of her career to set a new career mark at TU.
The second game proved to be a much more competitive affair, with Taylor taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third and tacking on three insurance tallies in the seventh for the 4-0 win.
Gunderson ignited the rally in the third with a bunt single and a stolen base to open the frame. Davis Carter gave the Trojans the lead by plating Gunderson on a single.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of TU until the seventh, when Gunderson again opened the inning with a bunt single and this time scored one batter later on a triple off the bat of Ehle. A single by Miller plated Ehle for a 3-0 lead and Taylor added the fourth run on a passed ball.
Robbins (1-1) was dominant in the circle, going the distance and fanning six batters while allowing only four hits in the shutout victory.
Taylor (3-3) is set to return to action on February 26 and 27, when it takes on Cumberland and Martin Methodist in Lebanon, Tennessee in a pair of doubleheaders.
