Sinders’ Incredible Two-Way Performance Delivers Exciting Win Over Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Lizzy Sinders' incredible two-way performance in the opener led Taylor to a split doubleheader against Georgetown on Friday in Kentucky.
Sinders (2-2) was outstanding inside the circle and at the plate in the opener, as she threw a complete-game shutout and delivered the biggest hit with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh for the game's only runs.
The two-way standout allowed four hits and a walked compared to a season-high nine strikeouts throughout the shutout. The freshman hurler had two runners on in just one inning in her best performance of the young season. Sinders has been incredible at the plate tallying a hit in all ten games to begin her collegiate career.
The Trojans threatened throughout the pitchers' duel, but were unable to capitalize, leaving eight runners on base in the first six innings and ten total in the contest.
Sinders had scattered a pair of singles and a walk throughout the first six innings while tallying eight strikeouts and mowing down the Georgetown batters without much sweat.
The teams headed into the final frame knotted at zero. Jayci Kitchen singled to begin the frame and Sinders sent one over the fence in right-center for her first career home run and gave TU a critical 2-0 lead late in the game.
After the Tigers switched pitchers, Madisyn Standridge doubled and Grace Mullins walked as TU looked for insurance runs. The next three batters were retired without another run crossing the plate to set up a tense bottom of the seventh.
Georgetown began the inning with a single and double to place a pair of runners into scoring position. Sinders locked in and induced a lazy fly ball and easy grounder before picking up her ninth strikeout of the game to close the book on a Trojan victory.
The Tigers took an early lead in the second game, plating six runs in the bottom of the second and chased the Trojan starter from the game.
Taylor responded in the next inning, loading the bases with one out and Ava Everman at the plate. Everman leads the Trojans with 11 RBI and delivered a two-RBI single to get with four.
After another un by Georgetown, the Trojans scored twice in the fifth. Standridge drove in Sinders with an RBI single and Everman followed with a sacrifice fly for TU to cut the deficit to three.
Taylor (5-5) plays Georgetown (3-3) in another doubleheader on Saturday, February 28th, with first pitch of the opening game scheduled for noon.
