Trojans Enjoy Successful Day at IWU Invitational
MARION, Ind. – The Taylor women's indoor track and field team had its best outing of the season at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh continued her stellar freshman campaign on Saturday, breaking her own school record and hitting the automatic qualification standard for the NAIA Indoor National Championship in the long jump with a leap of 5.59 meters she also won the 60 meter hurdles with an 'A' standard time time of 8.91. Sakeuh also clocked a third place finish in the 200 meter dash for good measure.
The distance medley relay team of Jane Hawks, Katie DeHaan, Sarina Oleson, and Alex Berends took the top spot with a time of 12:29.28 and hit the national championship automatic qualification mark as well.
Taylor continued its dominance in the distance events with Berends winning the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:33.62 while Michelle Franch took home first place in the 5000 meter run with a new personal-best time of 18:44.21.
Rachel Blagg won the 1,000 meter run with a time of 3:07.91 with Oleson taking third at 3:17.64.
Mae Elizabeth Gimre finished third with a time of 5:19.17 in the mile run while Taryn Seeland and Ellie Rodman both had personal best marks in the race as well.
Taylor took spots two, three, and four in the 600 meter with freshman Miriam Wood leading the way followed by Anna Souzis and Marjorie Crosby.
Wood also took third place in the triple jump with a total leap of 10.89 meters while Julianne Exner claimed fourth at 10.85 meters.
Brianna Jordahl took seventh place in the shot put with a toss of 11.20 meters.
The TU 4x800 relay team, made up of freshmen Blagg, Gimre, Souzis, and Crosby, claimed a win as well with a time of 9:54.
The Trojans will be in action again on Saturday when TU hosts its own invitational in Kesler Student Activities Center.
