Siefert Highlights Outdoor Opener with a Pair of Victories
MARION, Ind. – Kiana Siefert carded victories in the long jump and 4x100-meter relay to kick start the outdoor season for the Trojan women at the IWU Polar Bear Classic.
Taylor sent a plethora of athletes across the county in its season-opening meet at Indiana Wesleyan over the weekend. Siefert was a part of the Trojans two victories, leaping a distance of 18 feet 10.75 inches in the long jump before joining Nicole Braz Domene, D'Arjha Davis, and Adrienne McKean in the 4x100-meter. The quartet raced to a time of 47.73, under a second off the program record for the winning mark.
A trio of Trojans placed in the top ten in the 100-meters led by Davis with a time of 12.48. Blessing Ogbiwei began her outdoor collegiate career with a remarkable time of 12.61 and McKean finished in 12.83.
Davis also finished in the top ten in the 200-meters with a time of 25.90. Braz Domene was the top Trojan in the event, finishing sixth with a time of 25.70. Braz Domene also led Taylor in the 400-meters, breaking the minute mark at 59.29.
In the long-distance events, Emersyn Funk and Addie Draper finished third and sixth in the 1,500-meters, while Rebekah Firestone was runner-up in the 5,000-meters and Kennedy Applegate came in seventh.
Taylor had great performances in the hurdles as Siefert finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.42 and Claire Bailey finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.16.
Melody Patterson had a jump of 29 feet 10.75 inches in the triple jump to finish sixth. Alli Holder cleared a height of four feet 9.75 inches in the high jump and Elliana Transparenti cleared the bar of nine feet 7.25 inches in the pole vault. Savana Halfman and Kaylin Hiehle competed in the shot put and discus for the Trojans to round out the field events.
The Trojan women compete next in the Marian Knight Open on Friday, March 27th beginning at 8:00 am in Indianapolis, Indiana.
