Schroder Opens League Championships with Dominant 10k
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Taylor women's track and field team competed in the opening day of the 2021 Outdoor Track and Field Crossroads League Championships. Senior Livy Schroder led the Trojans with a dominating win in the 10,000-meters, claiming TU's first victory of the championships.
Schroder clocked consistent splits for the 25-lap race, recording a time of 38:09.88 and beating the next finisher by over one minute. The 10k has proven to be a niche for the Caledonia, Michigan native, as she has won the Crossroads League 10k race every year of her collegiate career. Schroder also currently holds Taylor's 10,000-meters school record.
TU's 4x800-meter relay crew earned All-Crossroads League honors as Brooke Studnicki, Giovanna Domene, Corinne O'Leary and Abbey Brennan finished in second place with a time of 9:25.32.
Patience Sakeuh had a busy day for the Purple and Gold, competing in the long jump, 100-meter hurdle prelims and 100-meter dash prelims. Sakeuh finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.37-meters, claiming All-League honors. The freshman qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals, clocking a time of 14.71 and claiming the No. 2 seed. Sakeuh then clinched the fifth seed for the 100-meter hurdle finals in 12.60. Sprint finals will be contested tomorrow.
Audrey Altum also qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals, crossing the line in 15.77 and claiming the No. 5 seed.
Kenley Blake claimed a top-five finish in the high jump. The sophomore cleared a height of 1.44-meters and ended fifth overall.
In the discus throw, Stephanie Wadsworth set a two-meter personal-best, logging a mark of 33.39-meters and grabbing ninth place overall.
Ashley Hall ended 10th in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash prelims. Hall clocked a time of 12.86 in the 100 and set a career-best time of 26.39 in the 200.
After seven scored events, Taylor sits in fourth place with 29.5 points, trailing Indiana Wesleyan in first with 79. The Trojans will return tomorrow for the second and final day of the Crossroads League Championships at Grace College. Action is set to begin with the women's javelin throw at 11:00am.
