Johnson Takes Third in Orlando
ORLANDO – Sophomore Javan Johnson earned a third place finish amid a strong field at the NAIA ChampionsGate Invitational in Orlando this week.
Johnson played remarkably steady golf, posting rounds of 71-72-72 to finish with a 54-hole tally of 1-under par 215 en route to the third place finish. Johnson carded a birdie on his final hole, the par-4 15th to wrap up a week in which the Franklin, Indiana native led the field in par-4 scoring at 2-under par for the tournament.
As a team the Trojans showed some early spring rust, firing rounds of 309-315-315 to finish in sixth place in the 7-team field on the 7,078-yard, par-72 layout of the ChampionsGate Resort International Course.
Junior Brady Roberts earned a tie for 23rd place with a 54-hole total of 232, carding rounds of 78-75-79.
Freshman Erik Fahlen carded rounds of 80-82-84 while sophomore Jason Iler notched scores of 80-91-80 and senior Nate Morris fired rounds of 84-86-88.
The Trojans finished behind a plethora of top-25 teams while defeated No. 17 Cumberlands.
The Trojans return to action on March 23-24 when TU travels to Abita Springs, Louisiana for the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational.
