Trojans Take Third at Purgatory
NOBLESVILLE, IN. – The Taylor men's golf team claimed a third place finish at the Purgatory Intercollegiate on Saturday.
The Trojans were led by redshirt sophomore Javan Johnson who fired 70-75 to claim a spot on the all-tournament team with a fourth-place finish.
Taylor tallied a team score of 299 in Friday's first round before closing with a team score of 307 during Saturday's final round amid windy conditions.
Sophomore Drew Pickering opened the tournament with a 74 during Friday's first round then added a 76 that included two birdies in his final three holes on Saturday to finish in a tie for sixth place at 150.
Fellow Sophomore Noah Ross was the next Trojan in the standings, tying for 16th place at 157 (75-82). Erik Fahlen finished one shot back at 158 (80-78) to tie for 20th place.
Rounding out scores for Taylor's first squad was freshman Adam Kasitz who bounced back from an opening round 83 with a 78 on Saturday to finish tied for 29th.
Freshman Austin Davis paced the Taylor reserve squad, firing 77-82 while junior Jason Iler tallied back-to-back rounds of 80. Freshman Lance VanErmen added scores of 80-81 followed by sophomore Payne Moses who fired 82-81.
Senior Keegan White added rounds of 80 and 83 while junior Sam Yeager managed rounds of 81-84.
Indiana Wesleyan took home the team title with a two-round total of 600 (289-311) while Mount Mercy climbed to second place at 603 (300-303) followed by Taylor at 606 (299-307).
The Trojans will return to action next weekend as TU travels to Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana for the Pilot Invitational.
