LIVONIA, Mich. – Taylor's first trip to the WHAC Tournament Semifinals in program history was spoiled quickly by a red-hot and top-seeded Madonna squad, as the Trojans suffered a 33-8 defeat to the NAIA's top-ranked team.
The host Crusaders (17-1) bolted to a 6-0 advantage and did not let up, pouring it on for a 14-1 lead after the first period and scoring 11-unanswered strikes in the second to put the game well out of reach.
Henry Cooper continued his torrid scoring pace down the stretch of the season, finding the back of the net five times for the third time in TU's final four contests. Cooper's fourth goal of the night was his 100th-career score, as he finished with a TU single-season record of 61 goals to bolster his career mark of 101 in just two seasons with the Purple and Gray.
Lucas Pacer also closed his season in style with 14 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Those numbers boosted Pacer to TU's all-time single-season record with 131 ground balls and padded his record of caused turnovers to 58 this year. The senior also concludes as TU's all-time leader with 295 ground balls and 114 caused turnovers in his outstanding four-year career in Upland.
RV Taylor concludes its season at 10-9 overall, setting a program record with 10 wins and registering other milestones by reaching a ranking of No. 8 in the NAIA, making a third WHAC Tournament appearance, hosting a WHAC Tournament game for the first time and securing a first-ever WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal victory.
