Trojans Claim Victory in Home Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women's indoor track and field team dominated the competition en route to a victory in the five-team field at the Taylor Invitational on Saturday.
The Taylor 4x800 meter relay team of freshmen Rachel Blagg, Mae Elizabeth Gimre, Anna Souzis, and Margie Crosby raced its way into the NAIA Indoor National Championships with an automatic qualification time of 9:41.73 to lead the way for the Trojans on Saturday.
Freshman Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh clinched the top spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.29 and added a victory in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.09 as well as a second place finish in the long jump at 5.18 meters.
Taylor runners took three of the top four spots in the 600-meter with Katie DeHaan leading the way at 1:40.51 followed by freshman Miriam Wood. The Trojans also took two of the top four spots in the 800-meter as Gimre finished second and Sarina Oleson finished fourth.
The Trojans were dominant in the 3,000-meter taking five of the top six spots in the race, including the top four. Sophomore Alex Berends was the top finisher, winning the race and hitting the NAIA B-Standard with a time of 10:28.99 while Michelle France, Taryn Seeland, and Hannah Schroder rounded out the top four. TU's Ellie Rodman raced well in the mile with a time of 5:46.76.
The Trojans also got some solid performances in field events with Wood taking first in the triple jump at 11.05 meters and Julianne Exner cleared 1.45 meters to place third in the high jump. Megan Bean also added a third place finish in the shot put at 10.98 meters.
The Trojans will have one final tune-up prior to the NAIA Indoor National Championships when the Trojans head to Greencastle, Ind., for the DePauw Invitational next Saturday.
