Sakeuh Leaps to NAIA A-Standard at Huntington Invite
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Taylor women's track and field team competed at the Huntington University Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Trojans had 11 top-five finishes and a plethora of new personal-bests.
Patience Sakeuh's long jump performance highlighted the day for the Purple and Gold. The freshman leaped to a lifetime-best mark of 5.78-meters and claimed the victory in the event. Sakeuh hit the NAIA A-standard and recorded the second-best jump in Taylor history.
The women's 4x100-meter relay crew grabbed TU's second win of the day. The squad of Sakeuh, Ashley Hall, Eden Siples and Audrey Altum recorded a time of 49.41.
Ashley Hall had strong finishes in the 100-meters and 200-meters as well. Hall placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.99 and fourth in the 200-meters in 26.68.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Abby Stoesz claimed third place overall crossing with a time of 19.44.
Three Trojans competed in the 800-meters, as Emily Johnson and Olivia Jeanette finished 11th and 12th place respectively. Johnson logged a time of 2:28.17 and Jeanette ended in 2:29.57. Eden Siples ran a time of 2:34.22, claiming 17th place overall.
TU had impressive performances in the field events throughout the meet, including Kenley Blake's third-place finish in the high jump. Blake cleared a height of 1.49-meters.
Taylor freshman Charis Siefert set a lifetime-best mark in the pole vault. The vaulter cleared 2.45-meters and landed second place overall.
The TU throwers had a successful day and set several lifetime-best performances. In the hammer throw, Hallie Brenner had a career-best launch of 35.90-meters and claimed third place. Stephanie Wadsworth ended in fourth place with a personal-best mark of 35.03-meters. Adelyn Schoenbeck and Chrissy Hickman also had career-best throws. Schoenbeck finished ninth (26.34-meters) and Hickman ended 11th (22.14-meters).
Wadsworth set a personal-best in the shot put, claiming third place with a mark of 10.35-meters. Schoenbeck finished fifth, recording a mark of 8.63-meters and Hickman grabbed eighth place with a toss of 8.29-meters.
Wadsworth then placed seventh in the discus throw, logging a mark of 29.53-meters. Schoenbeck threw a season-best mark of 28.28-meters, finishing in eighth place. Brenner logged a 10th-place finish with a career-best 25.90-meters and Hickman launched a three-meter PR of 17.99-meters.
The Trojans will return to action on May 6 and 7 for the Crossroads League Championships hosted by Grace College in Winona Lake, IN.
