TU Closes Georgia Trip with Win Over Point
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Tenth-ranked Taylor closed a successful trip to Georgia with a 14-10 win against Point in a neutral field affair hosted by SCAD Savannah. The Trojans used a 5-0 flurry midway through the contest to secure the win and come home with a 2-1 record to open the season.
Taylor wasted no time getting on the board on Saturday, as Jackson Dale connected with Henry Cooper for the day's first score just 78 seconds into the action.
The two teams traded goals from there, with five ties in the first half until goals by Ezra Jenkins, AJ Harris and Jack Kaiser in the final two minutes of the second period sent the Trojans to the break with a 7-5 advantage.
The Purple and Gray continued the game-changing rally in the early moments of the third with scores from Dale and Jude Wood in the first two minutes of the half for a 9-5 lead and eventually pushed the gap to 11-7 with back-to-back tallies from Will Saxby at the close of the third.
A goal from Cooper to open the fourth pushed the gap to 12-7 and Dale later put the game away with consecutive scores for a 14-8 lead near the midway point of the final period.
Dale, Cooper and Saxby closed the contest with three goals apiece, with Dale and Cooper also dishing out two assists to finish with five points each. Wood also scored twice and David Celesti dominated with 15 faceoff wins in 18 attempts and nine ground balls to fuel the Taylor charge throughout.
The Trojans finished the day plus-11 in faceoff wins and plus-13 in shots against Point (0-1).
No. 10 Taylor (2-1) will return home for its next competition, when it welcomes Mount Vernon Nazarene (1-0) to Wheeler Field on Saturday, February 14 for a 1:00 pm start.
