UPLAND, Ind. – An extended second-half rally turned a non-league game in No. 8 Taylor's favor on Saturday at Wheeler Field, as the Trojans pulled away for an 18-11 win over Missouri Baptist.
Taylor controlled the action early with the first four scores of the afternoon and eventually opened leads of 7-2 after the first quarter and 9-3 early into the second.
MBU (1-3) briefly came to life with five-unanswered goals over the duration of the first half, drawing to within 9-8 at the break and then pulling even at 9-9 and 10-10 early into the second half.
It was all Purple and Gray from there, as the Trojans reclaimed control with eight of the game's next nine scores to put the game out of reach.
Jackson Dale scored three times during the decisive rally and finished the day with seven goals, one assist and five ground balls. Henry Cooper was right behind with five scores and one assist and Jack Kaiser had three assists.
Grant Elzinga and Lucas Pacer anchored the defense, with Elzinga posting six ground balls and two caused turnovers and Pacer ending with three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Ben Harrell was strong in goal once again, picking up 13 saves to help protect the Taylor lead.
The Trojans unleashed 61 shots in the game and finished the day plus-seven in faceoff wins, while turning the ball over only 12 times.
No. 8 Taylor (4-1) will open WHAC play on March 11, with a 5:00 pm start at RV Lawrence Tech (1-3).
