Taylor Falls at Trine in First Road Test of Fall Campaign

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Taylor University women's tennis team fell 6-1 at Trine Friday afternoon in the road opener for the Trojans, hosted at the Ryan Tennis Center.

Maddy Fuqua recorded a sweep at the No. 3 singles spot, defeating Trine's Emilee Bassett, 6-3, 6-4, for her second singles victory of the season. Fuqua has yet to drop a set through the opening pair of matches during the fall campaign.

For the second time in as many outings, Sarah Scott played a tight match that went to a 10-point super tiebreaker but fell by a narrow 10-7 margin. Scott forced the tiebreaker after bouncing back to capture the second set, 6-3.

Jillian Darby nearly forced the third set tiebreaker after dropping her opening set at the top singles spot, but she came up just short and was unable to extend her matchup after falling 6-4 in the second.

TU resumes its fall competition with Tuesday's home match against Manchester. The start time is slated for 4 p.m. at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
