Taylor Records Decisive 6-1 Victory over IU Kokomo

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor University women's tennis team remains unbeaten in home duals after posting a decisive 6-1 victory over IU Kokomo on Friday night at the Taylor Tennis Complex.

 

TU (3-1) earned the doubles point, grabbing the 1-0 lead in the match with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. At the top doubles slot, Sarah Scott and Maddy Fuqua jumped out to a 3-0 lead before rolling to the 6-2 victory. Evy Danemayer and Kamryn Miller posted the same result at No. 3 doubles after stealing an early break point, as well.

 

At No. 2 doubles, Ellie Schaufelberger and Anna Stone were able to climb back after an early deficit, notching a break point after trailing 3-1, and holding serve to level the score at 3-3 and 4-4, but the Cougars' Sophia Davidson and Kennedy Perrin were able to break the final deciding point for the 6-4 result.

 

In singles play, the Trojans worked through a pair of gutsy performances at the top of the lineup with Jillian Darby and Sarah Scott fighting back to force super tiebreakers. Darby overcame a 6-3 setback in the opening set at No. 1 singles, storming all the way back to win the second stanza 6-3 before taking the tiebreaker by a final score of 10-4. Scott bounced back with a 7-5 victory in the second set but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker.

 

Fuqua and Schaufelberger cruised through the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches, respectively, while Evy Danemayer fended off IU Kokomo's Kennedy Horner at No. 5 singles with a pair of 6-4, 6-4 victories.

 

The Trojans return to action at the ITA Regionals next week, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
