Trojans Drop Home Match Against IU East
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (3-5) fell 5-2 against IU East (4-8) in a competitive match on Monday night at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
In the third spring match for the Trojans, a comeback after an early deficit fell short with the Red Wolves taking the final two single matches in tight fashion.
TU dropped the doubles point with Evy Danemayer and Ellie Schaufelberger winning their match decisively, 6-2, at No. 2. The final doubles match to finish was No. 3 and Delaney Dahl and Grace Frazier battled to the end in a heartbreaking 6-4 defeat.
IU East took the first two singles matches to finish for a commanding 3-0 lead, one point from taking the match. The Trojans responded with a pair of victories to surge back into the match.
Jillian Darby dropped the first set 6-2, before rallying to take the second 6-4 and force a tiebreak. Darby won the tiebreak for Taylor's first point of the match at No. 2 singles. Maddy Fuqua, at No. 1 singles, carded the next TU point, winning emphatically 6-0 in the first set before taking the second set 6-3 for the victory.
A pair of tight matches were the final to finish, but unfortunately, they swung to the Red Wolves as Schaufelberger dropped a match 6-3, 7-5 and Anna Stone pushed her opponent to the brink in a 6-4, 7-5 defeat.
Taylor (3-4) continues it spring season with another home match on Thursday, March 12th, when they face off against IU Kokomo (3-6) at 6:00 pm.
