Trojans Complete ITA Regional Appearance
MARION, Ind. – The Taylor University women's tennis team closed out its appearance at the 2025 ITA NAIA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted this week by Indiana Wesleyan.
TU featured three individuals in the Women's Open Singles Main Draw, including Sarah Scott, Ellie Schaufelberger and Maddy Fuqua. Scott posted a dramatic victory in her opening round match against Paige Riegsecker of IWU, 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 1-0 (11-9), which advanced her into the Main Draw Round of 32. It was the senior's fourth super tiebreaker over her previous five outings this fall.
In the Women's B Singles Main Draw, Anna Stone cruised to an 8-2 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene's Alanna Reyes. Stone moved on to the Round of 16, where she fell in a narrow 8-5 result. Evy Danemayer also made a run in the Women's B Singles Consolation bracket and came up just short of the semifinals, falling 8-5 to Marian's Raigan Heiflen.
TU also secured a pair of victories in the Women's Open Doubles Main Draw. The tandem of Scott and Fuqua edged Shannon Brumbaugh and Molli Runestad of Grace, 9-7. Stone and Schaufelberger also recorded a narrow victory, using a 7-5 tiebreaker to move past Huntington's Ashley Bucur and Coby Sander, 9-8.
The Trojans return to the friendly confines of the Taylor Tennis Complex on Friday, where they will host Anderson at 4:30 p.m. in the fall finale.
